Drop Forged Conveyor Chains for Material Handling System
Material handling involves short-distance movement within the confines of a building or between a building and a transportation vehicle. It utilizes a wide range of manual, semi-automated, and automated equipment and includes consideration of the protection, storage, and control of materials throughout their manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, consumption, and disposal. Material handling can be used to create time and place utility through the handling, storage, and control of material, as distinct from manufacturing, which creates form utility by changing the shape, form, and make up of material.
A whole set of chain conveyor involves drop forged chain link, attached nylon flight, philidas nut ,flat washer, enlongated bolt, high strength bolt, fender washer, hollow pin. Below is the assembling picture showing how they are assembled. Chain Conveyors are an essential part of many bulk handling systems, where they are used to convey bulk materials such as powders, grains, flakes, pellets …etc. Many of these conveyors use drop forged chains with flights as a means of conveying the material being handled. This “en-masse” conveying system is very popular as it is a simple but highly efficient system of moving material. When it comes to purchasing a chain conveyor, it is easy to look just at the one-time purchasing cost and the quality of the components. The problem with conveyors is that they are exposed to a lot
of wear and tear, and even the best chains can fail after a certain period of time. But this can be many years depending on the conveyor use and maintenance. If we look at the lifetime cost of an en-masse chain conveyor, we’ll find that a big part of this is the maintenance: the cost of replacement chains and links, the cost of the labour and finally the cost of the downtime.
Drop forged conveyor chains are widely used in bulk material handling of products such as grain, coal and ash. Also known as drop forged scraper chains they are typically fitted with flights or special attachments. The chain links themselves are forged from specially selected alloy steel and then precision machined to close tolerances.
When you require continuous flow (en-masse or drag conveying) and the material is being moved slowly within the casing, then a drop forged conveyor chain with attachments matched to the materials being moved will be a good option.
